Larry McEnery talks about the process of academic writing, with the main messages being:

  1. tell the experts they're wrong.
  2. Knowledge is a conversation moving through time
  3. Your writing must create value or it is useless

Tara Brabazon has a process for reading any article:

  1. Read the abstract, intro, and conclusion.
  2. Answer two questions:
    1. What is the argument this article is making?
    2. How is it valuable to my reserach question?
  3. Read the articles that are most valuable, toss the ones that aren’t.
