Getting out of bed isn't an accomplishment

I saw some kind of graphic today that said something to the effect of:

“Even if you didn’t get anything done today, at least you got out of bed.”

These kinds of ideas are harmful. A person who doesn’t have the will to rise from bed isn’t typical. Possibly, they have some kind of mental illness.

That said, most people I know, even the most unproductive, are able to rise from bed every morning.

Rising from bed isn’t the problem.

The problem is that when we rise from bed, we spend the day on activities that don’t move the needle on our professional or personal goals.

This isn’t mental illness. It’s cognitive atrophy. It’s a weakened or diminished habit.

And the first step in fixing this problem is to know what the problem is.
