Randomization is the gold standard for proving causation

This is related to the Covid19 Pandemic in that we did a lot of studies and it was the randomized ones that were seen as the most relevant.

The gold standard for studies of this nature are randomized control trials

More specifically, it helps ensure statistical equivalence on average. The groups are equivalent, but on average.

You can use statistics to check for statistical equivalence.

But it doesn’t mean that, for the specific goal you have, this is the best type of study. Sometimes a quasirandom study could be even better.
