Relationships are drops of water in a bucket

My therapist once told me that nurturing relationships is like putting little drops of water in a bucket. That little secret smile at the dinner table, that evening trip to Ikea, that errand you run together, the project you start (and finish), the sitting together in a room and not saying anything but being in the presence of another… these are like little pieces of hardware, little screws and bolts, reinforcements and adhesives…

At some point, you’ve built a life.
