the term originates from the concept of dropping a pebble into a pond and watching the ripples expand outward. When you share videos and memes with loved ones, it’s like dropping a “pebble” of content into your social network. The hope is that these individuals will enjoy what you’ve shared and continue to “ripple” it outwards by sharing it with their own networks. This can lead to a widespread sharing of the content, just like ripples in a pond.

Or maybe penguins gifting a pebble to their loved ones as a sign of joy.
