Text vs. Talk when you're upset

When we write, there’s an embedded pause between our internal reaction to something and our external reaction.

This is why I recommend Write an angry letter but don't send it to my coaching clients.

Example: when I wrote an angry note to my doctor a decade ago who misdiagnosed me with diabetes; I felt I had gotten utility out of just writing it, I didn’t need to send it.

It’s also why journaling is like smoking a cigarette.
