The importance of unstructured thinking
When you’re attempting thinking long and hard about a particular problem, the tendency is to say:
- I will read x number of books and articles on the topic
- I will try to weave some of this together intentionally in a note-taking app
- I will create a folder for it on my computer
But when you try to solve problems without such structure, it looks more like:
- I will carry around a notebook or an app on my phone
- If something calls out to me that speaks to one of my problems, I will trust my brain to naturally make that connection. having a recepticle for ideas makes it more likely for ideas to arise.
Important for the AI age.
Ways to do it:
- go for a walk with a notebook
- freewrite
- jam on your guitar
