we naturally anthropomorphize as humans to our detriment and to our benefit

We turn inanimate things into animate things in our heads.

Naming our cars, guitars, even ACs.

This is to our benefit, because it allows us to connect with non-human entities and understand them in familiar terms. By attributing human characteristics to animals, objects, or even abstract concepts, we can better relate to and empathize with them. This can enhance our ability to form emotional bonds, improve our capacity for empathy, and foster a greater appreciation for the world around us.

But it’s also to our detriment - especially with the rise of AI.

Becuase now we see a statistical prediction machine as a human and we even say it “learns” instead of “its algorithm is accumulating more refinements and its dataset is expanding”.

Why human–AI relationships need socioaffective alignment, The word smart should never used to describe anyone.
